Saudi Arabia & Fake News of Coup D'etat

Saudi Arabia & Fake News of Coup D'etat
~Asif Nawaz

With emergence of some fake news regarding a coup d'etat in Saudi Arabia, some people, especially the sheer opponents of Saudi Arabia and its policies, started cheering and celebrating the news. Whereas, the actual news was about an unidentified recreational drone which was hovering over a neighboring home to the Royal palace in Riyadh and subsequently it was shot down by the security forces with 30-second gunfire. This incident reflects insensitivity and mental object of the some of us who do not actually know what they wish for and what they are cheering upon. Though, Saudi Arabia recently is not good at few of its approaches and policies being adopted by its new Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman to bring about a reform in Saudi society, culture, economy and foreign policy but an abrupt regime change can never be argued as a solution to the problem. Examples are with us that the sudden regime change in the name of uprising or coup in the broader Middle east, is not encouraging. Syria, Libya, Yemen, Egypt, Iraq etc are continuously facing daunting challenges after they encountered with shock of sudden regime change. The over-a-night change in any regime, without following the due gradual process, by definition, is known as destabilization and destruction of the regime and its public institutions. And I have no doubt to say that an unstable Saudi Arabia would not only threaten regional politics and economy but its negative effects could be felt across the glob.
